Acrobat Ant Habitat
Most species of acrobat ants that invade homes and business across El Paso, TX and
Anthony, NM areas live under rocks or in decaying/rotting wood, where old wood allows
them to create their network of tunnels and nests. Often times, acrobat ants re-inhabit
abandoned nests from other wood boring insects like termites and carpenter ants.
Acrobat Ant Behaviors & Threats
The ants you see outside in trails are known as workers, and can often be found entering
through cracks or holes in walls, windows, door thresholds, and other small but vulnerable
spots. Acrobat ants are also known for following wires and pipes, and it easily guides them
to areas that may contain moisture or where food can be found. In the process, acrobat ants
will strip insulation from electrical or telephone wire, which can cause short circuits.
Acrobat Ant Diet
Acrobat ants usually feed on sweets and high-protein foods (like meats) or sugary waste
from aphids and mealybugs. They also eat live and dead insects including termite swarmers.
